The Amazing Unanswerable Tax Question
Okay, let's cut taxes by 5 trillion and give the military 2 trillion they don't even want. We'll work out the details on who's going to pay for all this once I'm elected.
RNC Chairman Slams Media For Asking How Romney Would Pay For Tax Cuts

Jim, why don't you just sit back and enjoy the ride, watch first hand how a country's economy should be run. You really should quit the whining also, this election is all but over for your Messiah.
I'm not sure if I'm simply better informed now, more cynical, or this campaign is particularly uninformative. Both candidates and campaigns seem absolutely full of half-truths and flat out lies. At the moment I feel like Romney's campaign is particularly dishonest.
Jim,
Total annual Federal tax revenue is about $2.2 Trillion. HOW THE FUCK CAN ANYONE CUT TAXES BY $5 TRILLION!?
Please excuse my language but I'm sick of these stupid lies.
When you are done with that one, please explain how tax revenue increased after the Harding, Kennedy, Reagan, and Bush tax cuts.
Bram- Budget debates are generally based on ten year cycles.
$5 trillion is a 10-year extrapolation from a Tax Policy Center estimate for the amount that would be cut in 2015.
Sorry to talk above your head, dumbass.
1. You and Obama purposely hide that 10-year model to make the numbers seem so ominous.
2. You use a static model that stupidly assumes no change in behavior. The 4 major tax cuts I mentioned above all resulted in revenue increases. There was no "cost" to any of them.
3. Obama's plan - cut taxes on low-taxed people, while raising them on high-income earners already over the hump of the Laffer Curve - is a plan to minimize tax revenue. Basing tax policy on envy is both immoral and illogical.
Look at the news from France. One of Obama's fellow travelers is leading the French down the same road that Obama is on. Investment is flying out of France.
In addition to the rediculous socialist policies, the Obama administration is the most corrupt, racist and lawless administration in modern American history.
Jim, try to defend the asshole and chief, and all of his corruption. I know, you can't so you just attack the other guy.
J. Marquise:
1. "military" = the joint chiefs, all of whom are appointed by the president. What do YOU think they will say? It would be interesting to know what other high ranking officers think off the record.
2.Economic growth will pay for much of it, assuming that the swindler-in-chief is defeated. The balance will be paid for via the savings realized by discontinuing ineffective liberal programs.
Bram,
Everyone talks in ten year cycles, so get your panties out of a bunch. Conservatives state that Obamacare costs a trillion dollars, which again is over ten years (and is paid for at least, unlike Medicare Part D).
Pure growth is pretty meaningless if the inflation rate is 8-10%.
When Republicans start advocating for the repeal of Medicare part D, I'll start believing that they are serious about fiscal reform.
Math is hard for Liberals and so is economics
So over the next 10 years, Romney is going cut tax revenue in almost half by slightly lower rates and eliminating deductions?
The math still doesn't work.
Awesome, a leftist worrying about money being spent. I don't know which is more striking, the profound irony or the Jim's feigned indignation.
Nate, I'm with you on part D.
Bram,
Federal tax revenue in '12 was about 2.5T, and 5 Trillion over ten years is 500B per year. Thus the tax cut represents 20% of the total federal tax revenue. You are absolutely right though, you can't cut rates on those that earn a lot and expect for it to be revenue neutral.
The same Tax Policy Center that has Mitt Romney's proposed 20% rate reduction and cap on deductions raising revenue by $1.3 trillion over the same period?
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/10/18/study-deduction-cap-would-raise-1-3-trillion/
Direct link to the Tax Policy Center study.
Romney is proposing Option 3. Cap deductions, repeal AMT and reduce rates 20%.
Impact on Tax Revenue
Just because it is in a chart means it must be true.
And just because a leftist said it means it must be false.
Well not quite true. only 90% of the time.
Nate - Jim M. is the one saying it's true because the Tax Policy Center said so. He (and the DNC) just cherry picked the numbers from a site that contradicts their point if you listen to what Romney is advocating.
Obama has this great game he plays - he makes up a straw-man position that his opposition doesn't really have, then thoroughly debunks that pretend position. It works great in a speech to the converted - it makes him look like a fool in a debate against an informed opponent.
Oh don't talk to Nate about straw men. He knows all about them. Also, he loves asking for sources, just not so much reading them.
Okay, General, you can have A or B but not both.
I'll take A.
General doesn't want B.
Actually, everybody from private on up will take everything he can get as long as he has a place to put it.
Even obsolete trucks will make targets for live-fire exercises.
Point is, when you say the generals don't want something, you don't know the entire issue. Could be they have a choice between two items when they would prefer both.
Nobody, suddenly in a fight, wants to be in the business of distributing shortages.
