Maybe the Teachers Were Left Behind...

Over the past year I have been amazed at (my perception of) the lack of intelligence in people I have met who claimed to be teachers. People whose writing, communication and people skills were so poor that I felt absolute pity for the children in their tutelage.

Well, Harvard may have taken a step in explaining this disturbing phenomenon. A recent article claims that the teaching profession is losing the smartest candidates and retaining the not-so-smart ones.

"...today's typical teacher is drawn from the bottom third of the distribution of people with baccalaureate degrees in the United States. Many of today's teachers were themselves rather poor students in secondary school."

"...among college graduates, many of the least motivated and able people go into teaching" (source)

A possible solution that has been discussed is to mirror other careers and offer pay incentives for teachers that excel. This would be more effective than an across the board raises, as it would weed out bad teachers by prompting them to quit as their pay remained low. As you may have guessed the Teacher's Union is completely against this.

...Maybe this is why so many teachers are against No Child Left Behind --they can't keep up with the work load...

(GREAT book about the Teacher's Union's (NEA) impact on the education system, by former Union Professional Linda Chavez: Betrayal)

Horrible...

"A 12-year-old boy with mental disabilities was charged yesterday with killing his month-old nephew by cracking the baby's skull while tossing him outside their [New Jersey] home." (source)

The boy was jealous of the baby (who was his nephew) and the baby's (Zachary) mother said that she had seen her 12 year old brother-in-law killing frogs and said that he had also killed her kitten. Zachary died of blunt-force trauma to the head and suffered leg and rib fractures. He was found by his mother face-down in a 3-foot inflatable pool in their backyard. My God, I can't stop thinking about this --the baby was only a month old and had been a preemie.

The "mental disability" of the boy is ADHD and he is on meds for it. After all the studies released claiming that Ritalin causes violence...it makes you wonder if Tom Cruise is actually on to something...

Carnival of the Recipes # 46

Patriotic Jello

My kids found this in a magazine and insisted we make it... I figured with Jello, Cool Whip, strawberries and Philly Cream Cheese --how could we go wrong...

What You Need:
(2) 16 oz. packages of strawberries
(1) 6 oz. (8 servings) package Strawberry Jello
1 & 1/3 cups of blueberries
(1) 12oz. pound cake
(2) packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (softened)
(1) 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip
1/4 cup sugar
1 & 1/2 cups of boiling water
1 cup of cold water
1 cup ice cubes
13 X 9" baking dish

What You Do:
Halve 3 cups of strawberries and slice the remaining cup.
Prepare the Jello. (Stir 1 & 1/2 cup boiling water into the powder and stir until powder is completely dissolved. Use 1 cup cold water and add ice until it measures 2 cups. Pour into gelatin mixture and stir until all ice is dissolved.)
Place Jello in refrigerator for 5 minutes.
Stir SLICED strawberries and 1 cup of the blueberries into gelatin.
Slice pound cake and line the bottom of the baking dish with the slices.
Pour gelatin/fruit mixture over the cake and refrigerate for four hours.
When Jello has set -Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth and then stir in the Cool Whip.
Smooth mixture over Jello.
Arrange halved strawberries and remaining blueberries to make a flag.

Some Questions...'Cause I Just Don't Understand...

To Those of You That Are Against This War....

Where you against the War in Afghanistan? Do you not believe that Iraq is part of the War on Terror? Do you feel bad that the attitude here at home is beginning to effect Military morale? How would you propose to fight a war against an ideology as opposed to a State?

I know, I know....you could all explain the rationale to me 1,000 times and I will never get it.

Think about other wars... Wars that many who are opposed to OIF have called 'just wars'. Wars that have produced terms like 'the greatest generation'. Wars in which America was 'united' in resolve throughout (because there was no TV coverage)...

These wars consisted of soldier fighting soldier under the command of their respective leaders. Boys that would have probably sat and laughed over a beer in a different scenario. Don't get me wrong, I am not belittling these wars of old in any way --they were necessary and they stopped dictatorships, genocide and the spread of pure evil. BUT if you want to talk about a JUST war...it would seem this is the most JUST of them all. Our boys aren't out there killing their counterpart from another country. They aren't depriving some grieving mother of a son who had enlisted or been drafted into Service just like our boys here. They are killing those that would kill us with no higher command. Renagades, insurgents, terrorists, murdering assholes -or whatever name you choose to give them. They have pledged their allegiance to nothing but the destruction of the West. They wear no uniform and place no value in life --their own or ours or those of our troops.

I get sad thinking about past wars --how those that died were fighting for their country (and maybe against their own beliefs) just like our soldiers sometimes have too. I don't feel an ounce of sad about this war. This JUST cause. No soldier has been killed by our men --just those that would have gladly strapped on a homicide vest if an M-16 hadn't ripped through their chest.

*Ack* More on GITMO

Isn't is crazy how the fabrications of torture (a.k.a. Christina Aguilera songs ad nauseum) spread through the MSM like a California wildfire, but when three anti-war, anti-Administration Dems fly down to Gitmo and concede that it looks pretty damn good....Is that crickets I hear chirping? What? It may be one of the finest prison facilities in the world? The Interrogators were reading what to the detainees...Harry Potter is torture in Islam?

"U.S. lawmakers witnessed interrogations, toured cell blocks and ate the same lunch given to detainees on the first congressional visit to the prison for suspected terrorists since criticism of it intensified in spring."

''The Guantanamo we saw today is not the Guantanamo we heard about a few years ago,'' said Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.).

So three that were calling for the closing were pretty damn impressed with their orange chicken lunches....? hmmmm. I guess that's why we were taught to actually SEE something BEFORE we comment about it...

Stand

There comes a time to stand for what you know
To be the right, whatever be the cost.
Then get you up to speak, or do, or go
To fill some gaping breach, though you be tossed
From wave to towering wave, while dervish winds
Pull sail from yard, and blind your eyes with spray.
Do what you must; go fight beside your friends;
Do what you can, and more; go seize the day.
Fear not the foe, and damn the shores alee.
To win the fight, you must run to the van.
The valiant prisoner's heart may yet be free;
The coward's heart is chained, and never can.
Go fight your fight; you must do what you ought.
It's better fought and lost than never fought."

The NYT

Well, I was going to be a brat and go through all my archived comments to pull out quotes from certain bloggers that continually contended that the NYT was not a 'liberal' or 'left-leaning' paper. (I know, it's laughable...but there were some who really seemed to believe it) I decided not to do that. It would take too long and I'm sick...

...But as it turns out the Times' Executive Editor agrees about the liberal bias thing... In an online memo he says that the NYT has launched a new campaign to "stretch beyond our predominately urban, culturally liberal orientation ... [and] cover the full range of our national conversation. And that The Times will "make an extra effort" to diversify its newsroom, culturally... and work to cover religion more extensively. But Keller says this is not an effort to "appease believers or pander to conservatives," insisting, "good journalism entails understanding more than just the neighborhood you grew up in."

Now re-read that last line. Since this statement verifies the fact that the Times has not had a diversified newsroom and has not worked to cover religion...and he says that is what makes "good journalism" --is he also admitting that his paper is bad and inherently biased journalism? (source)

Stranger than Fiction...

I am just going to post this story as is...because there is really nothing more that I can add...

"Gerardo Flores, 19, was convicted of murder in June in Lufkin, Texas, in the death of the 5-month-old [twin] fetus' of his girlfriend, Erica Basoria. Flores admitted that he had stood on Basoria's stomach several times at her request to induce a miscarriage, but Basoria had told authorities that she had also punched herself in the stomach several times. Under Texas law, killing a fetus is a capital offense, and so Flores automatically received a life sentence, but Basoria could not be charged because of her constitutional right to abortion." [Washington Post-AP, 6-6-05]

...and, of course, here is the page lobbying to free him. The page states his crime as "Helping his girlfriend get an abortion." The site also goes on to editorialize with this little gem:
"In a country where there is no publicly subsidized abortions for the unfit (as there should be), what other options were there, really? Only a fascist country like the United States of Amerikkka would force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term just because she couldn't afford the other, best option." (...the site owner claims to be a born-again preacher?)

Quagmire

I looked up the effects and signs of alcohol dementia and low-and-behold one tell tale symptom is repeating the same thing over and over.

(" Alcohol has a direct affect on brain cells, resulting in poor judgment, difficulty making decisions and lack of insight. Another symptom is telling the same stories or asking the same questions over and over, with no recollection that the questions have just been asked and answered. In conversation they may repeat the same piece of information 20 times, remaining wholly unaware that they are repeating the same thing in absolutely stereotyped expression." source)

Like the word QUAGMIRE for instance? Like if you say it enough times maybe it will stick? Like a certain Senator from Massachusetts? The irony of his constant misuse of the word is that the very word was coined to describe his brother's foray into Vietnam. He used the word for Afghanistan right before the Taliban fell -then used it in Iraq about a week or so in...
But more interesting than this man's dementia and the fact that MA voters keep pulling that lever is that he is one of only three members of the Senate Armed Services Committee that has not been to Iraq. Robert Byrd hasn't gone for health reasons (a.k.a. he looks like he could drop dead at any second), Elizabeth Dole (but she has plans in place to go) and Teddy. All this opinion about what’s going on and the man has never been there nor does he have plans to go.

Never Mess with a Ranger

A battalion of foreign marines was on a beach doing a PT workout when the CO of the battalion looked up and saw a lone United States Army Ranger standing at attention at the top of a hill.
The CO was curious so he sent a marine up to see what was going on.
As the marine approached the ranger sprinted into the woods, and the marine followed.
Yelling and screaming could be heard coming from the woods, seconds later the Ranger stepped out and stood back at attention.
The CO was still curious so he sent a squad up to investigate.
The ranger ran into the woods and after some yelling and screaming, came back out and stood at attention again.
Now the CO was angry so he sent an entire Platoon up to the top of the hill.
The ranger ran into the woods.
He emerged moments later after some more yelling and screaming with no sign of the marines anywhere.
The CO had had enough, he sent the entire battalion of marines charging up the hill.
The ranger ran into the woods. More yelling and screaming and this time some gunfire.
Finally a terribly wounded marine crawled out of the woods and reported back to the CO.
The CO inquired "Do you mean to tell me that one army ranger destroyed an entire battalion of marines?"
The marine replied "no sir, it was a trick, there were two of them"

Thought #1

I know that it is sacrilege for a conservative to say what I am about to say... but, I don't get all hung up about Amending the Constitution. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it should be done on a whim or anything, but I don't view it as a 'sacred document' that 'transcends time'. The 'Founding Fathers' were just human men who (as my mom would say) put on their pants one leg at a time too. If they were able to be resurrected for a day, they would most likely die of shock immediately. There is no way they could have even fathomed a slice of what the Country and the World has become. For instance, don't you think that they would be kicking themselves thinking that their document was being used to support the right to burn the flag --the same flag that they faced 4,000 various possible deaths to create? We are trying to give Iraq a one year deadline to write their Constitution... Rushing a Constitution?
The Constitution is fallible. No women helped to craft it...no Blacks got to suggest a line or two... Everyone's disclaimer for all the rules found in the Bible is, "It was written so long ago...that doesn't apply now". The Catholic Church has 'updated' their beliefs (and for those that believe The Bible is divinely inspired that means you are changing God's word)) --yet we seem to revere the Constitution more -and we know that was written by men.
I know...I will be getting 100 emails telling me to hand in my GOP card... But at least Iraq's new Constitution will be representative of all factions and both genders of their population.

Thought #2

Though I am sick-to-death of Aruba TV (aka CNN, FNC, MSNBC), some valuable insight has come from the ad nauseum coverage of the missing teen from Alabama... (Don't get me wrong, I feel sympathy for the parents, but the coverage is about nothing as there has not been any new leads that we know of in almost 27 days).

Aruban law -which mirrors Dutch law --which for the most part mirrors European law...sounds a hellava lot like GITMO law! They can pretty much pick up anyone with a perceived connection to the case. They don't have to tell anyone what the charges OR the evidence (if any) is. They do have lawyers, but that seems to be a formality as 'suspects' acn be held indefinitely if the presiding judge sees fit. And all week various speakers from The Netherlands and European experts in International Law have been defending this system on every station you flip on.

Much unlike American law --the VICTIM gets the weight of the resources instead of the possible CRIMINALS. I am fine with this system. And it would seem from the Natalee Holloway coverage that European law experts are quite content with this system also. And I bet that Urine Vanderslooth (or whatever his name is) isn't getting orange glazed chicken with four side dishes and a Bible hammock. Hearing so much about this legal system just verified to me that the bitching about Gitmo is not sincere, but just another chance to take a shot at this Administration.

Interesting...

...That it was all the CONSERVATIVE JUDGES that were the dissenters on New London, CT's EMINENT DOMAIN decision. (Dissenters= Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas)
The Liberals all opted to look out for Big Business while the Conservatives were standing up for the regular folks. That's right people...it would seem as if, thanks to Ginsberg and Kennedy, none of us actually own anything...and if a big business wants your property...it's all theirs for the taking.

"In her dissent, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor wrote: "Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random.

"The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms. As for the victims, the government now has license to transfer property from those with fewer resources to those with more. The founders cannot have intended this perverse result."
(source)

...That Howard Dean, Dick Durbin, Joe Biden, Dennis Kucinich, Teddy Kennedy, Robert KKK Byrd and Al Sharpton can espouse any lie they want, but if (the EVIL ONE!) Karl Rove says something that's true they all freak out. There were tons of liberals, not Democrats, but Moveon.org Liberals that were AGAINST the war in Afghanistan right after 9/11. Hillary tried to say that everyone was united on that war and it was not until Iraq that the Country split. Bull shit! The Man and I confronted these nuts face to face in front of the Liberty Bell on 9/15/01. Anyone Remember Moveon.org's pre-OEF petition? If you want the proof behind Rove's Statement, go to The Raw Story and read his great post -with tons of quotes (near the bottom of the page).

...That apparently Dick Durbin had no intention of apologizing until he was publicly chastised by Chicago's Mayor Daley (a fellow Democrat).
Daley said:"It's a disgrace and [Durbin] is a good friend of mine. But I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military acts like [Nazis] or that a report is like that," Daley said. "You go and talk to some victims of the Holocaust, and they will tell you horror stories and there are not horror stories like that in Guantanamo Bay." Also crazy is the fact that the Big Lib bloggers are mad at Durbin for apologizing at all and now wishing diseases to befall Mayor Daley....Hmmmm....

...That all those posting the "chick hawk" story are people that have never served in any capacity. What was the percentage of military personnel that voted for Bush? Or that is registered Republican for that matter? 70% or higher? Doesn’t that mean that more conservatives DO enlist?! All this squawking from the left about this is ridiculous -enlisted Democrats are welcome to bitch if they see fit –but lefty bloggers that have never even played paintball, let alone enlisted or considered it, may not.

Air Force Dictionary

BLAMESTORMING - Sitting around the squadron discussing why a suspense was missed or a mission failed and who was responsible.

SEAGULL COLONEL - A colonel who swoops in, makes a lot of noise, and dumps stuff all over everything.

SALMON DAY - The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream only to get screwed and die in the end.

ASSMOSIS - The process by which some people seem to absorb success and promotability by kissing up to the commander.

CRM - Career Restricting Move - Used among officers to describe ill-advised activity. Trashing core values or discussing Delta's pay scale while your commander is within earshot is serious CRM.

ADMINISPHERE - The rarefied organizational layers beginning just above the wing level. Decisions that fall from the adminisphere are generally profoundly inappropriate or irrelevant to the problems they were designed to solve.

DILBERTED - To be exploited and oppressed by your boss. Derived from the experiences of Dilbert, the geek-in-hell comic strip character. "I've been dilberted again. The old man changed my leave schedule for the fourth time this month."

FLIGHT RISK - Used to describe troops who are suspected of planning to retire or separate from the service soon. Alternatively, any O-6 or above that gets behind the controls of an airplane.

Things You Shouldn't Miss...

For all you ‘foodies’ out there--Carnival of the Recipes #45 is up and running at Note-It Posts and Dana has done a great job. Things that caught my eye you ask? Hot Italian Sausage and Tomato Pasta (especially since our host pointed out that the recipe calls for "4 hot Italian sausages" LOL), Chocolate and Guinness Brownies (They are posted by ArmyWife -who always submits good stuff -in honor of Blackfive), and Cookies Without A Name (Sorry, those with peanut allergies beware). So go check it out!

I have a secret obsession and Uncommonly Sensible has unwittingly fed the addiction with this post on anti-Christ predictions... Don't ask why I like reading these --I already know who the anti-Christ is...The Man's Best Friend...or maybe Dr. George Tiller...

For those who haven't heard, deployed Milblogger Chuck ("From My Position...On the Way") was injured by an IED and flown to Germany. His wife has been posting in his stead and she has an update on his condition posted. While your there, drop a line to let her know their family is supported! Mrs. Greyhawk from Mudville Gazette went and visited him in Landstuhl's ICU and you have to read the post! Wow. Chuck and CPT Jason Spencer (Chuck's XO who saved him from drowning in a canal because of his injuries and the weight of the kevlar) are both unbelievable. THIS is the heart and soul of our military...not what the MSM is trying to pander! Chuck is now back in the U.S. at Walter Reed.
(UPDATE: Thank you Alix for posting this link where you can leave a message for Chuck that will be taken to him personally --Lisa (who runs the site) is going to Walter Reed today though, so it may be too late.)

Sorry, more bad news... Our very own Zelda and her 6-month-pregnant friend were held up at gun point in her own damn driveway. You can read about it here. Thank God all three of them were OK, but the police have yet to catch these guys. I am sure that Jethro is willing them to have the balls to come back to his property!

Those of you who have yet to meet Phoenix (A.K.A. Army Girl) who is preparing to deploy to The Stan...Go over to her place and say 'hi'. She has caved into Cig's begging (lol) and posted pics and an audio post. Girl, we should switch voices...yours is so pretty and feminine and mine would serve better as an Army officer leading cadence --as I have been told I sound like Kathleen Turner. But Pax was much more gracious and said Lauren Bacall and I think I prefer that... Of course right now I have a cold and I sound more like one of Marge Simpson's sisters…

Last, but not least, I was thinking that it may be a good idea to postpone the much anticipated Blogger's Ball as so many of the key players can't make it that weekend...It wouldn't feel right to do it without ~Jen~, Alix, Jpck and Free (did I just say 'do it'?) You know what I mean... Feedback?

Question #1

Given the present, seemingly stagnant condition of the Senate, and the fact that we have just finished an election and already Senators are declaring their Presidential ambitions...Should active Senators be allowed to run for President?

Doesn't the impending run, and firestorm of press that will ensue, basically ensure Senators will be voting (for four years) not in the best interest of their constituents and the Country, but only in the perceived best interest of their careers?

Considering that only three men have come directly from Congress into the Oval Office, I don't think this would be much of a hindrance to the political process. What Gerald Ford did was more appropriate --he was the VP after Congress and then ran for President. The last time a Senator was elected President was 1960...45 years ago. That was JFK. Before that was Warren Harding in 1921. The other was from the House of Representatives -James Garfield in 1880.

Congress members that are weighing each move in light of future sound bytes are not serving their elected purpose as a representative of their constituents (Especially if they are a conservative in the North or a Democrat in the South).
I have been thinking about this and have come to the conclusion that Senators and Representatives with their eye on the Oval office make for lame duck political decisions. I think there should be a mandatory one year interim between service in the Congress and a Presidential bid.

Question #2

I really don't understand why the Democrats in Congress are SO dead set against personal accounts when it comes to Social Security...
Most young workers interviewed and polled say that they want this option. Is it really such a bad thing for Americans to have control of their own money? Isn't that the premise and practice that has made this the greatest economy and the strongest country in the world?

Question #3

If we went to "war for oil" and the Bush Administration is such "a friend of the Big Oil Companies"...
Then why is the Administration rejecting the current House version of the proposed Energy Bill because it provides too many tax incentives to the oil industry?

"...we believe that it's important that we move forward on comprehensive energy legislation, but the President has said when the price of oil is now around $60 a barrel that there is no need to be providing such incentives to the oil industry."

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm....

How Many MeMes Exsist in the Blogosphere?!

...I have no idea, but it would seem that I am getting tagged by ALL OF THEM! Thank you JR. You will go to any lengths to avoid politics huh...LOL

A Lifetime:

10 years ago: I was ending a 10-year (on and off) relationship and preparing to escape from the aftermath by moving to the U.K. and I was obsessed with working out and even toying with competing.

5 years ago: I was wondering how the hell I was pregnant with my second son when my first son was only 14 months old ...and I was nursing full time, and had fertility issues the first time, and was barley 'doing it' because of complications with the first pregnancy. Mason beat all the odds to be here.

1 year ago: I was blissfully going through life completely unaware that a thing called the Blogosphere existed. So what was I doing? Good question, but I'd bet my house was a lot cleaner back then!

Yesterday: I was with AB and CW4BillT at a Mexican Restaurant eating coconut shrimp, drinking frozen Hurricane's and talking about...well, pretty much everything.

Today: hasn't really started yet, but I have to take the older Sage-spawn to his little friend's birthday party at 5:30. Oh joy.

Tomorrow: Hopefully I will be packing to go to Sea Isle City (a beach on the Jersey shore). If not I will be moping that it was postponed until next weekend..

5 Snacks I Enjoy: TastyKake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes, Dunkin' Donut's Hot Coffee Rolls, Anything Key Lime, Hershey's Take 5 bars, edible undies (just seein' if you're paying attention!)

5 Songs I Know All The Words To: Jam on it (still!), Joy and Pain (still), Liar (Megadeth) -yes, even the whole end part, any pre-90's Metallica song, any pre-Hagar Van Halen song.

5 Things I Would Do With $100,000,000: Buy a phat house that has a huge finished basement with pool table and built-in pool (scrap that -we'd have it built), a '65 convertible GTO, PSPs for all the soldiers that I write to, send lots of money to my 'sponsor sisters' in Bosnia and Afghanistan, and OMG! Shopping spree at Neiman Marcus! Purse department watch out!!!!

5 Locations I'd Like to Run Away To: Ireland (the people are too damn nice), New Orleans (cause I've always wanted to go...), OBX (cause it's my home away from home), Scotland (cause I could listen to the accents forever) and Aruba (because it seems I could have the beaches to myself these days and I would never get in a car with someone named after a bodily function).

5 Bad Habits I Have: Smoking, making excuses for people, a insuppressible Savior complex, TV-a-holic (thanks to no TV rules as a child --all you no TV people beware) and major control issues (I must have it...always).

5 Things I like Doing: Getting away (thankfully we have friends in high places), Blogging (sorta), daydreaming (ALa & Colmes), hanging out with good friends and shopping (bags & clothes, not groceries)

5 Things I Would Never Wear: Bangs, anything from the Disney store, white shoes or bags after Labor Day, Yellow Gold or Birkenstocks.

5 T.V. Shows I Like: Law & Order SVU, Law & Order, Deadwood, Sex & the City and O'Reilly (FNC).

5 Movies I Like: Fight Club, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sliding Doors, 25th Hour and Journey's with George.

5 Biggest Joys at the Moment: My family, wireless internet connection, my new oven range (black & stainless steel...pretty!), a friend's offer to 'use their shore house whenever we want all summer', and my new Kenneth Cole bag that The Man got me for our anniversary.

5 Favorite Toys: *ahem* what?, the laptop, my Jeep (I am pretty sure I will never buy another make/model), my bag collection, DVD/Game system in the Jeep that is a travel life saver, and Gameboy (Legend of Zelda: Windwaker -best game ever)

Flag Burning -Free Speech or Criminal Act?

"The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States."

That is the proposed amendment. One line. But apparently a big controversy. Final Vote in the House of Representatives: 286 (yea) 130 (nay) to amend the Constitution and prevent the desecration of the American Flag. The Bill is now heading for the Senate.

"The measure was designed to overturn a 1989 decision by the Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 that flag burning was a protected free-speech right. That ruling threw out a 1968 federal statute and flag-protection laws in 48 states. The law was a response to anti-Vietnam war protesters setting fire to the American flag at their demonstrations." (source)

As you may imagine, I am all for this. I have never understood why burning the flag was considered 'free speech' as it is not speech. We can't burn down other things in protest or we would be arrested, and a cross is a symbol also and you certainly can't burn that...
Speech it is not --arson and endangerment it is. Though, I wish that there was no need for a law about this. I wish people understood the lunacy in burning the very flag that symbolizes a Country that gives the Freedom to do it... But after watching a few 'Protest Warrior' videos and seeing all the Rich "Mommy and Daddy are paying for me to go to college so I can skip class and protest and burn the Flag" kids --I say pass the Amendment.

“If you must burn the flag, please wrap yourself in it first.”

update: Just saw that KAT has posted about this at length....

Epipens & Inhalers...

(This one's for you JR!)

Did you know that in 28 States school children are not allowed to carry their life-saving Epipens and inhalers? Because of a safety concern that these devices could be used 'as a weapon' against other children...

Kelsey Ryan is a 9 year old girl that was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy at 5 yrs. In Kindergarten all teachers were trained to use her Epipene and took it with them wherever they went, but as she progressed in grade the Epipen remained locked in a cabinet in the nurse’s office -by law.

Given the fact that childhood allergies and asthma have almost doubled in recent years and the severe risk that these children were at not having these items readily available,
Kelsey and her Mom set out to change this law in Florida. Their contention was that a Life and Death situation outweighs the 'safety concern' (especially since a sharpened pencil could have the same 'threat' as the Epipen --and as for inhalers, I have no idea what threat they posed).

Kelsey testified in Tallahassee about the fear caused being without this possible lifeline and THE KELSEY RYAN ACT was passed and signed into law by Jeb Bush (earlier this year President Bush signed the Food Allergy Labeling Consumer Protection Act into law -that takes effect January 2006). Florida is now the 22nd State that will allow children to carry their own Epipens and inhalers.

Kelsey and her mom are now set on going to Congress to change the laws in the rest of the States that prohibit this necessity. What a great kid. (source)

Kids between 6-18 will be decending on Washington D.C. in the fall to educate elected officials from their respective states: Here's the Application.

The Cream Of The Crop
The United States Marine Corps

-by: Gregory A. Phillips, Sgt. E-5

We the few, the proud, the Marines. Hated by the other branches, with the exception of Seabees and Hospital Core Men and Amphibious Ready Groups, and lately Special Op's of the other branches, we are superb. We did our thing at Bellow Wood, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal and numerous other battle fields.

Why we are so good, we let Special Op's of the other branches freeze areas for us so that Force Recon and Scout Snipers can be fresh and rested when we reap havoc on opposing forces. We are handsome and witty. We are cool; when the shit hits the fan we become ugly in a handsome Marine way. We kill maim and render enemy fighting forces ineffective with the greatest of ease. We are the tip of the spear. Doggies (Army, Ain't really Marines yet) Squids/Swabbies (Navy, Not able to finesse out of water) and Fly Boys (Air Force, Air in the brain mechanism, also known as Wild Blue Yonder Wonders) envy us. We charge in growling with supporting arms. Our Harriers, Snakes and other choppers growl from the sky, our artillery, tanks, LAV's and AMTRACS growl from the ground. Our grunts breathe fire as they growl, with weapons blasting. Our support troops awaiting orders to ferry supplies to the front so that they may growl too.

No enemy is a match for us. We have prevented the eternal war between Heaven and Hell since we were born of a rifle and a bayonet at TunTavern.

God and the Devil are over joy'ed with us, we keep the gates of Heaven and Hell revolving and we impress the ladies in both places. Lieutenant General Chesty Puller (Eternal Commandant of all Marines who crossed the final line of departure), maintains a Marine Barracks in Heaven and an Air/Ground Proving Ground in Hell, commanded by Pappy Boynton himself. The Black Sheep Squadron is in charge of Marine procurement.

All that is left to say is SEMPER FI! THE CORPS IS FOREVER!

WTC Memorial Update

The 9/11 victim's families that set up the website TAKE BACK THE MEMORIAL (Have you signed their petition?) are doing us all proud by refusing to back down to the plans for an "International Freedom Center" at Ground Zero.

"Holding photographs of their loved ones, more than 200 friends and relatives of World Trade Center victims gathered yesterday near Ground Zero to decry what they call an "anti-America" project being planned for the site.
...critics contend it would give short shrift to the 9/11 victims while focusing on injustices, ranging from the U.S. civil rights movement to the Holocaust, to the signing of the Magna Carta.
Pointing to a large rendering of the Twin Towers, Staten Islander William Doyle, whose son, Joseph, died in the attacks, said, "This is what the 9/11 memorial should be all about."

"The memorial shouldn't be about politics; it should be about the victims and their families," Doyle said. "What they want to do would be a complete atrocity, because it would turn this place into a magnet for protesters instead of a place where families can come to remember their losses." " (source)

Gov. George Pataki is supporting IFC's plans for the Center. The victim's families argue (rightfully) that Ground Zero is "sacred ground" and that the proposed plans would "desecrate" the memory of all that were murdered on September 11, 2001. Critics of the proposal also contend that these plans will distract from the tribute to the victims and will be a magnet for geopolitical debate.
There was a press conference in which an IFC spokesperson claimed that the "demonstrators don't know the full story" and that the Center (set to open in 2009) will "deal with the International impact of 9/11". Victim's families were barred from that press conference.

Durbin Update

After a week, Senator Dick Durbin apologizes:

"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line," the Illinois Democrat said. "To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."

His voice quaking and tears welling in his eyes, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate also apologized to any soldiers who felt insulted by his remarks.

"They're the best. I never, ever intended any disrespect for them," he said.

During his apology, which Durbin delivered while looking directly into a TV camera broadcasting the proceedings, the senator said: "I made reference to Nazis, to Soviets, and other repressive regimes. Mr. President, I've come to understand that's a very poor choice of words."

He also reached out directly to Holocaust survivors, adding: "I'm sorry if anything that I said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time. Nothing, nothing should ever be said to demean or diminish that moral tragedy."(source)

"Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory"

By: Col. Bob Pappas, USMC, Ret.
From the moment the planes struck the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and crashed into the field in Pennsylvania, the writer's gut sensed that this day would come when the enemy within would begin to torture the rest of society into following its lead to capitulation----again. It was not hard for one to see through the flimsy veil that democrat leaders feigned as patriotism, through the made for television advertisements that Americans were united, through the now empty words of both the aforementioned, who were "committed" to see this War on Terror (WoT) through to a successful conclusion.

The flags have faded and are gone, the bumper stickers that proclaimed patriotism vanished and all that remains today are the yellow and sometimes red, white and blue ribbons magnetized to the trunks and bumpers of vehicles that exclaim solidarity with the troops, except of course the ones that state: "Another Patriotic American against the War." One must conclude these last demented souls mean that they are against the War onTerror, since it's the only war ongoing for the US.

Now, the fifth column, the hate America first crowd, the so called "liberals" among us; those whose treachery is exceeded only by Islamofacists', have come out in the open to attack the US before a fawning "mainstream" media which hangs on their every word, then "plastic talking heads" turn to the cameras to intone, "and that is how it is;" as though the evil deeds of a few sick, dare I say "liberal?" (They sure as hell weren't conservative) servicemen and women who misbehaved at Abu Ghraib or mishandled a Koran at "Gitmo" are representative of those brave
souls who risk their lives to keep this nation free; and that the evil men imprisoned at Guantanamo are but mere children and should be accorded all the benefits of petty lawbreakers.
"Libs" it's time to get off the sauce! Get your heads out of the sand of ignorance and twisted, "Clintonian" spin; wakeup and "smell" the danger!

Has anyone on the political left taken the time to remember, or find out in the first place, how long Americans were held captive during Vietnam? Korea? WWII? WWI? The Civil War? Have they given one second of thought to the fact that the WoT may well last for generations, until Mid-east Muslims taste freedom, are crushed, tire of their crusade or the US capitulates?

The "Islamofacists" prisoners at Guantanamo can remain there permanently or until they disavow their Islamofacism, and become Christian, Jew or Mormon, or pick a lesser known one. For "liberals" and the so-called, "mainstream" media: why is it that America should be the one to tire of adversity? Is freedom so worthless that America should sacrifice it on the
altar of inconvenience or fatigue? Most Americans don't have a clue about the merits of freedom except the ones who have lost it. Ask Senator McCain what he thinks about it!

Why does the American political left play into the enemies' hands time and again, or do they intentionally aid and abet the same? If it's the former, their ignorance is insufferable and should be shunned, if it is the latter isn't there a provision of the Constitution that states: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort"?

Or, does the fact that Kerry and Fonda were given a "pass" during Vietnam now give legislators permission to do the same? Is the political left in this country so intoxicated with their own swill (Now we know what Kennedy drinks) that they believe they are exempt from a charge of treason? Or, do they believe a charge of Treason is Unconstitutional and would have the ACLU defend them in that case? Nothing offensive or outrageous from the American political left would come as a surprise.

They wrap themselves in their hypocricy spouting treason that in yesteryear would have prompted demands for an apology at the least and in blatant cases, such as that now openly espoused by the democrat party and RINOs, would have landed them in prison or to banishment. And they have the temerity to call their behavior "concern for the Constitution," or "defending the American way?"

Those traitors now openly lend aid and comfort to the enemy, and although the age of freedom may succumb to their stupidity, self-indulgence, arrogance and anti-American behavior, they nonetheless raise their voices in support of the very enemy that would seek them out first to behead them----with a dull knife.

If the US has lost credibility in the world it is not because it seeks to destroy [sic] al quida and other likeminded enemies, it is because America "cut and ran" after all but decimating the forces of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese during the Tet offensive of 1968. The media depicted that enemy as omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent too; and US forces as so incompetent that continuing the struggle was a futile endeavor. Thanks Walter.

But today the facts are known that the communist enemy in Vietnam was all but decimated after the Tet offensive and on the verge of collapse, and the American democrat congress of the early 1970s snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Nice goin' "dems!" How utterly stupid can democrat politicians be? Every day brings another outrage against this nation by those back stabbing "fellow patriots."

But, ah, ha! At least now one knows why they have the symbol that they do! If it weren't serious, it would make great comedy; but the writer doubts that as they watch from their eternal posts that George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Ike Eisenhower or Ronald Reagan are laughing.

Semper Fidelis.

You KNOW I Can't RESIST...

...a good Senator KKK Byrd story...

"THE most venerated figure in the US Senate has told for the first time how the inspiration for his illustrious half-century of public service was a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan.

Robert Byrd was a butcher in tiny Crab Orchard, West Virginia, when the Klan official was so impressed by his efforts to organize a KKK chapter that he urged him to enter politics.
" (source)

Byrd has written an 800 page autobiography (on stands yesterday I believe) in which he looks to 'explain' this time in his life....But calling burning and lynching a "foolish mistake" seems to fall a bit short...and I'm not even Black.

BUT WAIT...it gets better...
"The book gives no clear idea of how long he remained in its ranks and fails to address a notorious letter that he wrote in 1945 to one of the Senate’s most outspoken segregationists. In it, Mr Byrd attacked President Truman’s efforts to integrate the military, saying that he would never fight “with a Negro by my side”. He wrote: “Rather I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels.” (source)

Apparently the average IQ in W. Virginia is 93, but we really can't go by that because the average IQ in MA is 111 and they have elected Kennedy and Kerry countless times.

Past sins can be forgiven and should (though he used the 'N' word again in 2004 in an interview), but I can't get past the fact that this should disqualify him from public service and maybe he should be on trial somewhere...

PETA charged with ANIMAL CRUELTY...?

Yes, the organization that claims it is CHILD ABUSE to feed your children milk has had two employees in North Carolina that have been charged with animal cruelty. (source) They were caught dumping dead dogs and cats (some of which were not actually dead) into a shopping center dumpster. Between 75-85 animals in all.
PETA spokespeople are claiming that the cars and dogs were taken from area shelters to keep them from being killed in inhumane ways. I guess 80 rotting corpses in a shopping center in the Carolina sun is perfectly OK...
PETA also claimed that all their employees were trained and have the necessary paperwork to be euthanizing animals. A claim that also seems to be false and is under investigation.
"We have no records of training PETA employees because we were informed that euthanasia was being done by a local veterinarian," a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture"(source)
PETA is yet another example of a group that initially did a lot of good and now has just crossed over into lunacy...and, as it would seem, also hypocrisy.

FOREIGN LANDS By: Sergeant Aaron M. Gilbert
"Foreign lands,
Families home,
Marines have gone,
To stand alone.

We fight for God,
Our Country and Corps.
So freedom may reign,
Forever more.

The North, the South,
The Black and the White,
For the American Land,
We all unite.

With my rifle and life,
I defend my home,
Always on call,
Destination unknown.

For all of my life,
This was my dream,
To fight for my Country,
As a U.S. Marine.

Though I will not be there,
For the birth of my Child,
I'll serve the Red, White and Blue,
Through any fire or trial.

Against domestic and foreign
Threats I will fight.
From the dawn of day
Into the darkness of night.

Some are bitter and cold
For having to go,
And leave behind,
Their Family and Home.

But with God in my heart,
And His light in my life,
All is at ease,
When I leave my Home and my Wife.

But soon it will come,
In His soft spoken tone.
God will say, "Well done Marine."
Now pack up and go home.

So, calm is my heart,
And safe with the Lord,
My life always will be,
While I fight in this war."

I Conceed...

...as it seems there was indeed Torture and Qur'an abuse.

Unfortunately for Dick Durbin and his ilk, it was at the hands of terrorists and detainees and not the U.S. military.

"A hostage who was found shackled in a torture room in Iraq by American soldiers has described how he was tormented for 22 days with electric shocks and daily beatings for no obvious reason." (Read the entire article)

This is who our military is dealing with and Dick Durbin is worried about what? What I want to know is would any of these people screaming for the rights of the militants and claiming there are so many innocent nice boys at Gitmo (yeah, I'm sure UBL's bodyguard is a hoot) --would they let them, ANY of them, alone in a room with any member of their family? I think that should be the test. No lawyers, no tribunals....get the most left-wing person you can find and offer them the prisoner's freedom in exchange for one day alone in a house with their children. We'll see how convicted they are then.

As for Qur'an abuse... The Pentagon found that there were indeed CONFIRMED instances of book abuse by American military personnel. I am sure that you have heard that and seen it plastered all over every 'progressive' blog out there. BUT have you heard what these confirmed cases actually were? Let me share that with you.

--"A guard urinating outside a cellblock inadvertently splashed an air vent. A detainee later claimed some of the urine penetrated his cell and contaminated his clothes and his Quran. The prisoner was immediately issued new clothes and a new Quran and the guard was reassigned.

--A detainee claimed his Quran had gotten wet after guards threw water balloons into his cell.

--A detainee complained during an interrogation that guards had kicked the Quran of a detainee in a neighboring cell four or five days earlier.

--A contract interrogator stepped on a Quran while interviewing a detainee. The interrogator later offered an apology for the incident - which was accepted by the detainee." (source)

Is this laughable? But wait, in contrast to that...Here are CONFIRMED instances of Qur'an abuse BY THE DETAINEES:

--"Three detainees spit and/or threw urine on their Qurans.
--Two detainees ripped pages from their Qurans and tried to flush them down the toilet.
--A detainee tore out pages of his Quran to cover the air vent in his cell
--A sleeping detainee was found using a Quran for a pillow." (source)

I really think people need to examine their motives when buying into this. I am not being condescending, but I feel so strongly that the Bush-hate in this country has caused good people to go off the deep end and the end result may hurt them in the long run, but right now it will definitely hurt our troops...

More Insight...

...into that wonderful "Religion of Peace".

Apparently, "Homosexuality in Islam is punishable by death but pederasty is permissible." (source)

Is this true? I started researching this because I came across this picture (not graphic, just disturbing).

There are these verses in Islam:

Qur'an 52:24 "Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded."
Surah 76:19 "Allah promises fresh youths to Muslim men."
"...And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls."

This information comes from FaithFreedom.org, which is run by a former Muslim. Here is his story about why he left Islam -even though the punishment for that is death. His site offers to remove any information that can be proven false.

"Pederasty was not seen as an offense. Ayatolla Khomeini had this to say about pederasty: "A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However he should not penetrate, sodomising the child is all right. If the man penetrates and damages the child then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however does not count as one of his four permanent wives. The man will not be eligible to marry the girl's sister. (From Khomeini's book, "Tahrirolvasyleh", volume 4)" (source)

It's OK to have sex with baby boys, but these people are stoned to death for having sex before marriage?! And there are size requirements for the rocks used?!

...and we let a Qur'an touch the floor? Peace my ass.

The Military Wife
"The good Lord was creating a model for military wives and was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared. She said, "Lord, you seem to be having a lot of trouble with this one. What's the matter with the standard model?" The Lord replied, "Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, posses the qualities of both father and mother, be a perfect hostess to four or forty with an hour's notice, run on black coffee, handle every emergency imaginable without a manual, be able to carry on cheerfully, ever if she's pregnant and has the flu, and she must be willing to move 10 times in 17 years. And oh, yes, she must have six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her head. "Six pairs of hands? No way!" The Lord continued, "Don't worry, we shall make other military wives to help her. And we will give her an unusually strong heart so it can swell with pride in her husband's achievements, sustain the pain of separations, beat soundly when it's over-worked and tired, and be large enough to say 'I understand,' when she does not, and say 'I love you,' regardless."

The angel circled the model of the military wife, looked at it closely and sighed, "It looks fine, but it's too soft." "She might look soft," replied the Lord, "but she has the strength of a lion. You would not believe what she can endure."

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Lord's creation. "There's a leak," she announced. "Something is wrong with the construction. I am not surprised that it has cracked. You are trying to put too much into this model."

The Lord appeared offended at the angel's lack of confidence. What you see is not a leak," he said. "It's a tear." "A tear? What is it there for?" asked the angel. The Lord replied, "It's for joy, sadness, pain, disappointment, loneliness, pride and a dedication to all the values that she and her husband hold dear."

"You are a genius!" exclaimed the angel. The Lord looked puzzled and replied, "I didn't put it there."

David proposes that this Father's Day everyone send an E-Card to their BlogFather (If you have a BlogMother, I guess you'll have to wait until next year). A Blog Father is the person who inspired you to start your blog (if they are a male). I love this idea and if everyone does it I have a feeling that Buzz (CB) will be getting LOTS of cards!

Thinking about all the Father's that are separated from their families today...those that are deployed far from their loved ones. A special Happy first Father's Day to Milblogger Michael --who is in Iraq and has yet to meet his new little guy... And sending many get well wishes to Pax's dad who is in the hospital.

A Soldier or an Angel?

"In 1949, my father had just returned home from the war. On every American highway you could see soldiers in uniform hitchhiking home to their families, as was the custom at that time in America. Sadly, the thrill of his reunion with his family was soon overshadowed.

My grandmother became very ill and had to be hospitalized. It was her kidneys, and the doctors told my father that she needed a blood transfusion immediately or she would not live through the night.

The problem was that Grandmother's blood type was AB-, a very rare type even today, but even harder to get then because there were no blood banks or air flights to ship blood. All the family members were typed, but not one member was a match. So the doctors gave the family no hope; my grandmother was dying.

My father left the hospital in tears to gather up all the family members, so that everyone would get a chance to tell Grandmother good-bye.

As my father was driving down the highway, he passed a soldier in uniform hitchhiking home to his family. Deep in grief, my father had no inclination at that moment to do a good deed. Yet it was almost as if something outside himself pulled him to a stop, and he waited as the stranger climbed into the car. My father was too upset to even ask the soldier his name, but the soldier noticed my father's tears right away and inquired about them.

Through his tears, my father told this total stranger that his mother was lying in a hospital dying because the doctors had been unable to locate her blood type, AB-, and if they did not locate her blood type before nightfall, she would surely die.

It got very quiet in the car. Then this unidentified soldier extended his hand out to my father, palm up. Resting in the palm of his hand were the dog tags from around his neck. The blood type on the tags was AB-. The soldier told my father to turn the car around and get him to the hospital.

My grandmother lived until 1996, 47 years later, and to this day no one in our family knows the soldier's name. But my father has often wondered, was he a soldier or an angel in uniform? Sometimes, we never know who God will bring into our lives to carry out a special mission nor do we know whose lives God will have us touch."

Open Post:

My day yesterday was emotionally draining to say the least. It started with a phone call from a friend about the death of a very young girl who is a single mom, and went downhill from there...
So...to be blunt...I got nothing.
So I decided to leave this post open (in Mudville Gazette fashion) for anything: stories, rants, recommendations or advice.... whatever is on your mind... or just links to posts you wrote or that someone else wrote and you want everyone to see... Be shameless and link away. Throughout the day I will try to move the links & blurbs from the comments to the post...

*UPDATE*: (OK, so it's hard for me to just sit back --My name is ALa and I am a control freak...)
DICK DURBIN 'REGRETS' GITMO STATEMENT:
"I have learned from my statement that historical parallels can be misused and misunderstood," said the Illinois senator. "I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings: our soldiers around the world and their families at home deserve our respect, admiration and total support." (source)
Do you think this statement would have come without the BLOGSTORM of wrath?

The LINKS BEGIN:
Recruiting Issues:
Barb links with: Recruiter to be Interviewed on NPR
Barb also recommends: Blackfive's 'Marine Recruiter And the MSM Part Two'
Gribbit (from Stop the ACLU!) posted: Oh My God, Not The Military Recruiters!

The Military and the MSM:
H2SO4 Links with: Winning Hearts and Minds and wants to know if he is a "paranoid wacko", or if he "just leans heavily to the right"...?

Milblogs:
~Jen~ submits: The National Guard Experience with the Golden Rules of care packages. And anyone with young children that is forced to watch PBS will apprciate the Boobah post on the same site, and Beef Jerky for Dummies (I think it's safe to assume that ~Jen~ really likes this site! LOL)

What a Dick (Durbin)!

Randoms...

Kofi Annan really needs to be fired.

Is it wrong for me to say that Arlen Spector is really hard to look at these days. Damn, I can't believe I caved and voted for him (not because of how he looks --because of his politics). Isn't he the one that just proposed that bill that would absolve asbestos companies...? A man that just went through Chemo is saying that people have no recourse to asbestos exposure? The taxpayers have to pay and not the asbestos companies...do I just not understand this bill?

Have you heard about the (possible) serial child molester in California? They found a notebook with 36,000 sex acts listed... Ugh...this makes my stomach churn...

Tom Cruise has proposed to Katie Holmes (who has apparently converted to Christian Science-ism -I know, I know Scientology, but the former sounded funnier). I would like to go out on a limb and predict Tom's next wife: Dakota Fanning.

On a lighter and more personal note...
The Man and I went out for dinner and drinks last night with Beth A.K.A. She Who Will Be Obeyed A.K.A. Carnival of the Recipes Creator Extraordinaire A.K.A Loving wife of John of Argghhh!... It is always tough picking a restaurant when someone is in town--(I have told you all before that Philly has kick-ass restaurants and I really wasn't exaggerating). We decided on The Continental -a converted diner now hipster Martini Bar that is known for their chocolate martinis and their lobster mashed potatoes. Beth had a drink that looked great: Champagne-A-Rama (champagne and raspberry vodka with the top of the glass dibbled with grenadine and sugar) and The Man got to have his beloved Sidecars. After dinner (we got tons of stuff and all shared) we walked over to a little Belgium bar down the street and got a few Lindemans (I had Framboise (raspberry) and they had Kriek (Cherry)) and played touch screen trivia and word search games (there was an erotic picture game too, but we won't talk about that one) After that we strolled around for a bit (it was a gorgeous night) and then, sadly, took her back to her hotel so we could rescue my mother from our Sage-spawn. As soon as Beth got safely into the hotel, The Man turned to me and said, "She is SO nice!" ...and she was. Beth is so bubbly, funny and sweet and superb dinner date! We look forward to her next trip to Philly and hope that John can come too! Have a safe flight home!

Again...She gets Tagged...

...and THIS time by her own The Man... This is a bit different than a MeMe though, so I will indulge him...

"Five things society at large enjoys, but that I, for the most part, just don't get..."

1)...The Anorexic look. Yeah, yeah...all boys say that they don't like it, but why is it the Hollywood and Madison Avenue standard? --obviously someone likes it. There were actresses that used to be pretty, but now they just look gross (Debra Messing, Jennifer Aniston, Calista Flockhart). Do you know what happens when you are that skinny...look at Paris Hilton and you will see --she has no ass. It's not natural. Women should be curvy and feminine like Marilyn Monroe not Twiggy look-a-likes.

2)...Slagging Breast Feeding. If you don't want to watch someone breast feed --go away. Have you ever seen an animal feeding its young a bottle? Do you think God gave you breasts for your husband's pleasure? NO, No no... They are there to feed babies, and those of us who have been doing it for a while can do it so well that most of you never even know what's going on. And don't look disgusted that people choose to use their breasts for what they are intended for and call it animalistic...duh... (sorry -old wound opened up by Barbara Walters)

3)...Smoking bans. OK people...I understand not smoking in offices, trains, airplanes and even restaurants, but coffee houses, Bars and CLUBS is a whole different story. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Coffee houses are about drinking some primo java, smoking and listening to really bad poetry (was that redundant?) and bars and clubs...do I even have to say anything. Will we ban reading in libraries or toilet paper in bathrooms. If you don't like smoke, you shouldn't be at a bar... Go to a yogurt stand or something.

4) ...Unions. Someone PLEASE tell me why there are still labor unions in this day and age and why they still wield so much political power. Legal, organized corruption. If your boss is treating you wrong -go get another job. You have a trade and you are in demand...why give up so much of your money in Union dues that go into PACs and support candidates that you don't care for? Why sit in the Union hall or strike when you could be working? I just don't get it...

5)...Wedding DJs/"dancing". I hate the Electric Slide and the Macarena even more. You do not look sexy out there in your stocking feet shaking your booty under that sequined pale blue dress... please sit back down. A wedding full of white folks dancing is just painful. Please don't fool yourself into thinking that you are the "one" that can dance. The stereotype started for a reason, and after going to a few weddings you realize that reason was a damn good one! The dance is all worked out for you and STILL NO ONE IS DOING THE SAME THING...

Ok, I am done and my obligation is fulfilled, now...

...for the next five victims:
She Who Will Be Obeyed :because after all the drinks Tesco and I gave her she will need an easy post...LOL
Pax Romano :because I know he will find a way to make this funny and not just rant like I did (sorry, was that too much pressure?)
Kat :because she works so hard on all her posts that she deserves a 'fun' one...
~Jen~ :because we haven't heard from her in a while *ahem*
Big and Mean :because he has my back and I love him for it.
